Zachary’s Passing
THE SEARCH
My journey began early May as I headed off to my daughters house in Castle Rock CO. The van ran well and I felt that just getting there was an accomplishment. I used the next few weeks to unload, get organized, and steel myself with the purpose of my trip…putting my son to rest and dealing with his death. I still procrastinated, it was hard emotionally to get on with it. I made a day to leave and injured my toe by dropping a fold up bed and tearing my big toe nail off! So June 10th turned into June 20th but I did actually drive away and off to the wilderness to begin the search for me to say goodbye to Zac…..
RAMPART RANGE ROAD
Just a few hours drive north then west and I was on a dirt road NFS 300 heading and among the pine and aspens. I stopped at a fee area campsite for the night and the next morning started to look for the spot!
Drove until I was in the dispersed camping area. Explored a few roads and then went on NFR 936…The first areas to park and stay were covered with spent casings from target shooters so I drove a bit deeper into the woods and found a place to park off the road and settled in for a few days…was just not feeling it at that spot and after a few days decided to go back to home base and reevaluate my choice of areas to find Zac’s resting place. On the way back I drove south to Woodland Park and on the way saw a few really nice looking roads and potential spots…but even in the few days I had spent I needed to do a few things to the van to make things a bit more productive and smart…Woodland park is very nice and Manitou Springs is a great place for going to do street photography. I’ll be going back there to check it out on another trip.
