A Glimpse Into Their Future…Perhaps

BEING IN LOVE IS SO VERY NICE…FALLING IN LOVE IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY!

A deliberate pause in their easygoing and pleasant conversation came in unison as a very old and obviously devoted couple passed by the table on their way out of the busy coffee shop…the old man held his woman’s arm securely with one hand on her forearm and another gently patting her hand, as to keep time with the slow steps on the way to the door…they shuffled and stepped with care, each eyeing each other’s pace, long practiced as to not cause either one to a fall…her cane bounced up as it a carpet runner and they both came to a stop with a knowing smiling passing between them…adjusting her cane she nodded and the progress started again. The younger coupler watched all of this in rapt attention, both seeing and feeling and the beauty and tenderness of that moment…as a smile of acknowledgment and tenderness passed between them as well…a few more steps and the elderly couple paused before the door, a few words passed between them as the woman put both hands on her cane and spread her feet to stay balanced…only after he was satisfied did he let go of her forearm and turn back toward the door…pushing with both hands the door barely budged and try as he might it would move no more… the blustery weather and wind were beyond his strength to open the door…his face turned despondent as he continued to struggle with the door…the woman spoke out softly and motioned to her man to come close to her he bent down so she could whisper into his ear…immediately the mans face softened and then noisily chuckled as she finished her thoughts…
The watching couple had started to rise and to give a helping hand…but stopped when a very young man rose after he let his attention go from his phone to the elderly couple when he heard the resounding laugh from the aged man…he spoke to them with a boyish smile and short bow…the older pair giggled and smiled as they responded to him, again exchanging a tender smile between themselves…with another short bow and a laugh the caring young man opened the door and assisted the venerable couple manage the wind and weather to the safety of a waiting cab…the watching couple held each other’s eyes for a long and lingering moment…an understanding passed between them of the beauty of what they had just witnessed settled between them…smiling broadly the man gestured toward the door as a way of asking if she was ready to leave…she nodded and they rose together…the man offered her his arm and she laughed out loud and slapped his shoulder with a loving smile…tenderly he pulled her arm close and they headed for the door…
